Tourist Information Centre in the historic Market Cross
Description
Visit our charming Tourist Information Centre, where you will be greeted by friendly and knowledgeable staff in the historic Market Cross on the Market Place.
The town received its first market charter from King John in 1204, a privilege regranted by Henry VI in 1440 and memorialised in our iconic Market Cross.
Inside the Market Cross you can also see a new timeline display illustrating our town’s history and immerse yourself in a virtual reality experience of the devastating battle of 1549 for control of Norwich, which sealed the fate of Kett’s Rebellion.
Grab a headset, take a seat and be transported back to August 1549, when Norwich was at the heart of the last public revolt in England.
Find yourself at the centre of the action as events unfold around you. Follow the rebels' progress from the early days in the camp at Mousehold Heath to the final battle at Dussindale.
Suitable for ages 12+
This experience is free for everyone. Just ask our Tourist Information staff for a headset.
Pick up a handy mini-guide with map which guides you through Wymondham’s highlights as well as information on the town’s varied and fascinating history, the Visit Wymondham Guide to the town and details of what’s on, guides to all the local attractions and get advice on what to see and do, whether you live here or are just visiting the area.
